Between April 2 and 4, a large group of water value chain stakeholders from Portugal, France, and Spain will meet at the headquarters of the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro in Vila Real to advance the study of reclaimed urban water for agricultural irrigation. The meeting is organized within the framework of the European project I-ReWater, in which UTAD is participating as a beneficiary and responsible for the Portuguese pilot on olive trees through the Department of Agronomy of the School of Agricultural Sciences of Veterinary Medicine, directed by Professor Anabela Afonso Fernandes Silva.
The agenda opens on Wednesday afternoon, April 2nd (4:00-7:00 PM) with a training session on installing trunk and soil sensors for irrigation control with reclaimed water. Technicians from the manufacturer, LabFerrer, are traveling from Lleida, Catalonia, with support from CITAD (Center for the Research and Technology of Agro-Environmental and Biological Sciences). The session will be attended by approximately sixty people, including consortium beneficiaries, I-ReWater partner organizations, and UTAD students.
The following day, Thursday 3, after a first part focused on updating the technical evolution of the I-ReWater project, the afternoon will be reserved for a free participatory workshop to learn about the pilot that the UTAD Agronomy Department will implement in a plot in Mirandela together with the winegrower Sucessus Vini. Águas do Norte, technological partner of UTAD and Instituto Politécnico de Brangança, will explain the adaptations made in the WWTP of Mirandela and Alfândega da Fe to produce water for reuse class C, according to the Portuguese Decree Law 119-19_PT.
Tasting of experimental beers
This Thursday 3 will end with a tasting of beers brewed with hops irrigated with urban water regenerated in the pilots of Galicia (Spain) and Castilla-León.
Finally, on the morning of Friday 4th, the last part of the I-ReWater steering and technical committee will be held to deal with communication, administrative and financial matters.
