Projects co-financed by the Interreg Sudoe programme have the opportunity to enter the «Prémios dos Fundos Europeus» (European Funds Awards), a Portuguese competition recognising the excellence and impact of projects supported by European funds.
What are the European Funds Awards?
The Prémios dos Fundos Europeus are an initiative promoted by the Agencia para el Desarrollo y la Cohesión (AD&C, Portugal) within the framework of the Portugal 2030 Communication Network. The aim is to shine a spotlight on projects co-financed by the European Union that have demonstrated a concrete impact on the social, economic and environmental development of their territories — and to raise public awareness of the contribution of European funds.
In their 2nd edition, the awards open up to European Territorial Cooperation projects, through the dedicated category «Portugal + Cooperação Territorial Europeia».
Which Sudoe projects can apply?
For the Interreg Sudoe programme, only projects from the 2014-2020 programming period are eligible for this edition. The regulations require that candidate projects be physically and financially completed, have carried out all planned activities and have received their final financial payment.
Sudoe 2021-2027 projects, still under implementation, do not meet these requirements at this stage.
What the application form must demonstrate
The application must be submitted by the Portuguese partner(s) of the project (lead beneficiary or beneficiaries if the lead is not Portuguese). Only projects with at least one Portuguese beneficiary are eligible.
The application form requires a detailed description of the project’s impacts and results, supported by quantitative and/or qualitative indicators. Within this category, it is essential to demonstrate the project’s concrete impact on Portuguese territory: the changes generated in Portugal, the target groups reached, and the added value produced at national level.
The jury’s evaluation criteria are:
- cohesion
- impact
- innovation
- sustainability
- community involvement
- transferability

Opening of applications

Closing date for applications
You must submit your application using the designated form by 17 July at 23:59:59 (Mainland Portugal time). Applications must be submitted in Portuguese.
Announcement of the finalists
On 30 September, the list of finalists for each open category will be published.
Public vote
Once the finalists have been announced, voting will open for the ‘People's Choice’ category. Voting will close the day before the awards ceremony.
Awards ceremony
Finalists must give a pitch to present their project during the awards ceremony. This presentation must be given by a Portuguese beneficiary of the finalist project.
