The CARDIOPATCH project, led by the University of Navarra – Área de Terapia Celular, with other Spanish, French and Portuguese entities, worked in the field of medical research and focused on the recovery and improvement of the lives of patients who suffer from cardiovascular diseases, specifically heart attack.
The project has created the CARDIOPATCH Therapy Model, made up of three medical products that help patients recover. The first of these products is a collagen membrane, seeded with cells extracted from human adipose tissue and with a powerful cardiovascular action.
The second product is a device for growing the patch, created in 3D printing, in different sizes and tested on animals (pigs and rats), and the third product is a gun-shaped device that allows cardiologists to roll the patch in it and then deploy it on the affected area of the heart, with minimally invasive techniques.
Several project partners, after carrying out the tests needed for the validation of the device, decided to patent this product, since the tool was proven to be a viable solution, both for transporting and for implanting the CARDIOPATCH patch.
You can read more details about the project on their website.
