The event was organised by the Universidade de Vigo, the Universitat de Lleida and Ingredalia, and took place at the Fira de Lleida and the Universitat de Lleida. The main day, 27 October, hosted the NEWPOWER Transnational Forum as part of the AgroBiotech Innovation Forum 2026. The project’s main results and activities were presented there, and the work of every partner was displayed as posters. The day also included a networking session with companies, researchers and other organisations. Over the following two days, the consortium held its final meeting to review results, deliverables and continuity actions.

A project built on cooperation

The video gives a voice to NEWPOWER’s eleven beneficiaries:

  • Universidade de Vigo (Lead Partner)
  • Universidade do Minho
  • Fundación Centro Tecnológico de Investigación Multisectorial (CETIM)
  • Universitat de Lleida
  • Instituto Politécnico de Bragança
  • Universidad de Zaragoza
  • Institut National Polytechnique de Toulouse
  • INRAE Centre Occitanie – Toulouse
  • Ingredalia
  • OPRIMEE
  • Revalorem

Together, they have tackled a shared challenge in the Sudoe area: turning agricultural and forestry residues into valuable resources.

How NEWPOWER has progressed

Since its launch in January 2024, the project has organised its work into three complementary lines:

  • Extraction, characterisation and encapsulation of bio-compounds. The consortium has worked with residues from the timber, paper and forestry industries, as well as from agriculture and forest clearing: vine shoots, acacia, gorse, broom, eucalyptus, pine, chestnut and olive. To obtain these compounds, it has applied green and innovative extraction methods, with potential applications in food, health and organic farming.
  • Selective fractionation of residues. This line aims to obtain lignin-based products, biofuels, bioplastics and platform chemicals by combining green chemistry and white biotechnology.
  • Sustainability, viability and transfer. This line analyses the processes from an environmental and techno-economic perspective. It also prepares their transfer to companies and organisations in the Sudoe area through cross-border strategies and pilot actions.

From results to continuity

The Cross-border and Final Event marks the home stretch for NEWPOWER, whose implementation period ends on 31 December 2026. The video traces this journey through the voices of its protagonists and highlights transnational cooperation as a driver of the circular economy, the bioeconomy and the development of rural areas in the Sudoe space.
