On 25 September 2026, the transnational webinar “Smart Green Water: Irrigation Digitalisation in South-West Europe” will take place. This online, multilingual event (Spanish, French and Portuguese) will bring together institutional stakeholders, technical experts and representatives from the agricultural sector to promote more efficient and resilient water management in agriculture.

10:00 – 10:15 Opening
Introduction by the Euroregion Pyrenees Mediterranean as lead partner of the Smart Green Water project, presenting the project, the webinar programme, and the objectives of the event.
10:15 – 10:45 Public Policy Perspectives on the Digitalisation of Irrigation
Political representatives from each SUDOE country will provide an overview of the current situation of irrigation in their territories, highlighting key challenges and policy priorities. The session will explore how the adoption of the Smart Green Water Transnational Strategy could support more efficient, resilient, and digitalised irrigation systems while reinforcing regional and European goals for sustainable water management and climate resilience.
10:45 – 11:10 Smart Green Water Transnational Strategy: From Diagnosis to Action Plan
Presentation of the Smart Green Water Transnational Strategy, including the findings of the transnational assessment that informed its development. The session will present the Strategy’s main objective of promoting the digitalisation of irrigation for more efficient water use and climate-resilient agriculture, present its key pillars, policy and technical actions, and target stakeholders, and explain how it was built on territorial needs, partner contributions, and evidence generated through the pilot actions.
Presentation of the Smart Green Water Action Plan for Catalonia, highlighting how the Transnational Strategy has been translated into regional actions and illustrating its integration with existing policy frameworks, including the RIS3 Smart Specialisation Strategy, river basin planning, agricultural digitalisation programmes, and the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).
11:10 – 11:50 Smart Green Water Platform: Tools for Irrigators
This session presents the key outputs developed throughout the Smart Green Water project to complement and support the implementation of the Transnational Strategy. It includes the demonstration of a digital platform serving as a central repository for the Strategy and project results, the development of digital tools for drought contingency planning and collective water management, a methodology for evaluating and cataloguing digital irrigation solutions to guide public and private investments, and training activities designed to strengthen the digital skills of farmers and water managers. Together, these outputs enhance decision-making, foster the adoption of reliable digital technologies, and contribute to the digital transformation and resilience of the irrigation sector.
11:50 – 12:20 Round Table Discussion: Adapting the Strategy to Farmers’ Needs
Round table discussion on the Smart Green Water Transnational Strategy and farmers’ needs, focusing on the main priorities and challenges identified during the project’s demonstration events. The discussion will explore how these needs are reflected in the Strategy and how its implementation can better support the uptake of digital solutions, improve water management, and respond to the practical realities faced by farmers.
