On Tuesday, 3 November 2026, the Interreg Sudoe programme is hosting a round table dedicated to health as part of the Mostra dos Fundos Europeus (European Funds Exhibition) in Lisbon. Five Portuguese beneficiaries of five Sudoe projects will demonstrate the tangible impact of European cooperation on patient care.
Organised by the Agência para o Desenvolvimento e Coesão (AD&C), the Portuguese national authority for the programme, the Mostra dos Fundos Europeus brings together stakeholders in European policy in Portugal every year. Each Interreg programme is given a session to present its projects. Interreg Sudoe has chosen to focus on a topic that concerns everyone: health.
Five projects, five perspectives on health
The ‘Cooperating for better care’ round table will follow a patient’s journey: from local prevention, access to care in rural areas, and a hospital stay, to support for the healthcare professionals providing the care.
The five projects fall under the programme’s specific objective 4.5, which is dedicated to health. They began in June 2025 and will run until May 2028. Three of them focus on the elderly, and four target equal access to care in rural areas. They will be presented by their Portuguese partners:
- SAM, social prescribing in primary care, to mobilise health resources around the patient. With Professor Isabel Rocha (AIDFM – Faculdade de Medicina, Lisbon).
- ESOR, oral health for the elderly in rural areas through dental telemedicine. With Professor Henrique Pedro Soares Luís (Universidade de Lisboa – Faculdade de Medicina Dentária).
- GENEUS, an integrated care pathway in geriatric neurosurgery. With Miguel Amador Pereira, Research Project Manager (Hospital CUF Descobertas).
- SHAPE, prevention of hospital-acquired frailty through adapted physical activity. With Nuno Lopes, Director (Instituto S. João de Deus).
- MAG-SUDOE, mentoring for genetic counsellors: a Portuguese pilot project being transferred to partner countries. With Lídia Guimarães, Researcher (i3S, Porto).
