On 21 and 22 April 2026, Caldes de Montbui hosted a new meeting of the Association of Catalan Thermal Towns, bringing together institutional representatives and technical staff from several municipalities. The event strengthened cooperation between thermal destinations while highlighting the strategic role of the European project ThermEcoWat.

As one of the pilot territories of ThermEcoWat, Caldes de Montbui presented the progress made in the project, which aims to strengthen the resilience of ecosystems linked to thermal waters in Southwest Europe. The initiative promotes innovative responses to climate change through better resource management, diversification of thermal water uses and the integration of the energy potential of geothermal resources.

During the technical session, special attention was given to the presentation by the Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia (ICGC), focused on the geological uniqueness of Catalan thermal towns, the legal framework of thermal waters and the specific experience of Caldes de Montbui within ThermEcoWat. The municipality is currently developing actions such as improved monitoring systems, hydrogeological studies, energy audits and new strategies for sustainable use of thermal resources.

The meeting also served to exchange experiences in tourism promotion, communication tools and common strategies for the future of the thermal sector. Participants discussed joint promotional materials, audiovisual content and new collaboration opportunities at regional and international level.

Beyond the working sessions, attendees visited emblematic thermal heritage sites in Caldes de Montbui, including Thermalia Museum, local spas and the public thermal baths, reinforcing the municipality’s position as a benchmark destination for wellness, heritage and sustainability.

By hosting this event, Caldes de Montbui confirms its leadership in thermal innovation and its commitment to European cooperation through ThermEcoWat.
