International Conference “Litstening to the Soil”, celebrating World Soil Day

Congreso Internacional “Escoitando o solo”, para celebrar el día del suelo

To mark World Soil Day (5 December), the Soil&WineResidues project consortium co-organised the International Conference “Listening to the Soil” at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Santiago de Compostela.

Juan José Villaverde, project coordinator and researcher at the Soil Biochemistry and Quality Group of MBG-CSIC Galicia (lead partner), presented the Soil&WineResidues project within a programme that brought together more than 200 participants from diverse backgrounds, including soil scientists from four generations, as well as university and vocational students.

The programme included international scientific lectures, outreach panels and activities aimed at highlighting the importance of soil as a vital resource.

The event featured contributions from experts from INRAE, CIEMAT and Biology students from the University of Santiago de Compostela.

Recognition was also given to the work of Montserrat Díaz Raviña (MBG-CSIC), one of the main driving forces behind the conference, organised in collaboration with DG SECS (Galicia), SECS, USC, CRETUS, University of Vigo and the InBestSoil project.

The consortium is composed of: MBG-CSIC (lead partner), Aeris, Paco&Lola, Fundación Juana de Vega, Mancomunidade do Salnés, APESA, Vinovalie, CIM Baixo Alentejo, Herdade da Figueirinha, University of Vigo, University of Santiago de Compostela, Autonomous University of Barcelona, Université Clermont Auvergne, University of Lisbon and University of Aveiro.
