The auditorium of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Chemistry and Biology (CICA) at the Universidade da Coruña will host the colloquium “Valorisation of agroforestry biomass for the development of high value-added products” on Thursday 15 October, from 10:00 to 12:30. The event is organised by CETIM Technological Centre, a beneficiary of NEWPOWER – Interreg Sudoe, in collaboration with CICA-UDC.
After the welcome, Mar Castro, Principal Researcher in Lignocellulosic Materials at CETIM, will present the NEWPOWER project. Vanessa Álvarez, researcher at CICA-UDC, will then speak about biofertilisers made from biochar and slurry as a way of giving agricultural and livestock waste a new life. Esther Valiño, Innovation & EU Programmes Manager at Feuga, will discuss how to connect valorisation with knowledge transfer and the opportunities it creates.
Pedro Ferreira, researcher at the Universidade de Vigo, will present new opportunities for agroforestry biomass based on its extraction, fractionation and product development. The session will close with a round table on R&D and technology transfer for the valorisation of agroforestry biomass, moderated by Mar Castro with Vanesa López (CETIM), Vanessa Álvarez, Esther Valiño and Pedro Ferreira, followed by questions from the audience.
The colloquium is part of the dissemination actions of NEWPOWER’s Task Group 1, which provides for colloquia at different consortium entities to share the knowledge generated on the integral valorisation of agroforestry waste with lecturers, researchers and students.
NEWPOWER – Interreg Sudoe (S1/1.1/E0116), coordinated by the Universidade de Vigo and co-funded by the European Union through the Interreg Sudoe Programme, is developing new scalable multi-product biorefineries for the integral valorisation of agricultural and forestry waste, to obtain renewable energy and high value-added products through cooperation between organisations in Spain, Portugal and France.
