The activities of WG2 encompass the analysis, design, installation, and monitoring of innovative water management solutions at various pilot sites in Spain, France, and Portugal, as well as awareness-raising and scientific dissemination activities. Its main expected results are:
Analysis and recommendations: A comprehensive report on existing frameworks and technical solutions for circular water management, with innovative recommendations for each pilot site.
Design of circular systems: Detailed plans for tailor-made solutions, including the reuse of wastewater, greywater, and rainwater, filtration technologies, and IoT monitoring systems.
Implementation of pilot solutions:
France (ESTIA): Rainwater harvesting, dry urinals, IoT systems for resource optimization and management.
Portugal (UC): Greywater reuse for irrigation and toilets, innovative urinals, and efficiency measures.
Spain (Canal de Isabel II): Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) and greywater recycling in urban areas.
Spain (Breen/ZubiGune): Closed-loop wastewater treatment using biological processes, with reuse in a hydroponic greenhouse and IoT and RES (Renewable Energy Sources) systems for resource optimization and management.
Monitoring and evaluation: Evaluation of system performance based on efficiency, quality, and social acceptance indicators, with recommendations for their replication and scaling up.
Awareness and dissemination: Development of technical reports, visual educational resources, scientific publications, and citizen participation methodologies to promote sustainable water resource management.
The project will contribute to optimizing water resource management, reducing drinking water consumption, and promoting sustainable practices in the SUDOE region, actively involving stakeholders and local communities.
