This pilot activity will be developed by partners COTHN, IRTA, and INVENIO. The common framework for experimentation will be defined within the CAP under the coordination of IRTA (a reference in arboriculture).
They will work together on at least 2 common pathosystems: the fungus responsible for apple scab (Venturia inaequalis) and the rosy apple aphid (Dysaphis plantaginea). Other pathosystems may be studied depending on the needs of each LL. In the case of apple scab, the objective will be to integrate biosolutions into existing itineraries using DSS (Decision Support Systems) to model the appearance and intensity of contamination and position biosolutions accordingly. For the rosy apple aphid, the objective will be to shift from current spring treatments to an autumn strategy, in order to reduce the inoculum in the following year. Each LL will develop its own strategy adapted to the local context. Protocols will be jointly developed: experimental design (open field or experimental simulating real conditions, plot size, etc.), treatment (BIPMS, conventional, combination of both), and evaluation (EPPO criteria, controlled frequency, etc.). Results will be evaluated at the end of the 1st year to allow for adaptation of the 2nd-year protocols if necessary. A demonstration day will be organized for at least farmers and companies developing biosolutions in each LL for each experimental season. These days may be open to other stakeholders depending on the objectives and actors involved in each LL.
The tested, evaluated, and demonstrated solutions will lead to the validation of integrated control strategies against apple pests and diseases using biosolutions. These will be disseminated within the LLs and more widely among farmers, SMEs, and supporting intermediary organizations for their application by other actors and regions of SUDOE.
