Development, demonstration, and evaluation of BIPMS for growing eggplants.

Summary

Description

This pilot activity will be developed by UPVD and TECNOVA partners for cucumber cultivation. The common framework for experimentation, monitoring, and evaluation will also be defined within the CAP under the coordination of TECNOVA (a reference in horticulture). UPVD and TECNOVA will collaborate on at least the control of the two-spotted spider mite (Tetranychus urticae).

In this case, the use of a predatory mite, an amino acid-rich biostimulant product, and a fumi-gen formulated from natural extracts will be evaluated individually and jointly (with different combinations). Each LL will develop its own strategy adapted to the local context for this common pathosystem, in order to propose shared and transferable solutions. Other pathosystems may be studied depending on the needs of each LL. Protocols will also be jointly developed: experimental design, treatment, and evaluation. Results will be evaluated at the end of the first year, to allow for adaptation of the second-year protocols if necessary. A demonstration day will be organized in each LL for each experimental season. These days may be open to different organizations depending on the objectives and actors involved in each LL.

The tested, evaluated, and demonstrated solutions will lead to the validation of BIPMS for cucumber cultivation. These will be disseminated within the LLs and more widely among farmers, SMEs, and supporting intermediary organizations (cooperatives, technology centers, etc.) for their application by other actors and regions of SUDOE.

Here’s the English translation of the provided text:

The objective of this pilot project is to introduce BIPMS in eggplant cultivation. The common framework for experimentation, monitoring, and evaluation will be defined within the CAP under the coordination of TECNOVA (a reference in horticulture).

This pilot activity will be developed by partners INVENIO and UPVD. They will work together on at least the “diabolical” stink bug (Halyomorpha halys). In this case, biosolutions alone are not enough to manage the pressure from these pests. Therefore, the aim will be to combine prophylactic measures (insect-proof nets, vegetated structures, etc.) with existing biosolutions on the market, and to find the best combinations.

Each LL will develop its own strategy adapted to the local context for this common pathosystem, in order to propose shared solutions that can be transferred to other areas with similar contexts. Other pathosystems may be studied depending on the needs of each LL. Protocols will be jointly developed: experimental treatment plan and monitoring-evaluation. Results will be evaluated at the end of the 1st year to allow for adaptation of the second-year protocols if necessary. A demonstration day will be organized in each LL for at least farmers and companies developing biosolutions in each experimental season. These days may be open to other stakeholders depending on the objectives and actors involved in each LL.

The tested, evaluated, and demonstrated solutions will lead to the validation of integrated pest and disease management strategies for eggplant using biosolutions. These will be disseminated within the LLs and more widely among farmers, SMEs, and supporting intermediary organizations (cooperatives, technology centers, etc.) for their application by other actors and regions of SUDOE.
