On 16 and 17 March 2026, the University of Salamanca held an online training workshop as part of the Cyan’EAU project, focusing on the Guadiato River sub-basin within the Guadalquivir River Basin. The activity was attended by technical staff from the Guadalquivir River Basin Authority (Confederación Hidrográfica del Guadalquivir).
The main objective of the workshop was to present the results obtained so far and to foster discussion with stakeholders on their relevance to cyanobacterial bloom events.
During the sessions, the methodology used to develop and analyse the geographic information generated by the project was presented, highlighting the procedures applied to ensure the quality and reliability of the results. Participants were also introduced to the land-use maps and the maps identifying interaction and discharge areas connected to surface water bodies within the Guadalquivir River Basin.
The workshop concluded with a technical discussion in which participants compared the results with historical bloom events recorded in the basin and explored the potential of the methodology to improve the detection, assessment and monitoring of future cyanobacterial blooms.
In addition, the event helped identify new opportunities for the next phases of the project, particularly regarding the improvement of monitoring systems, the interpretation of results and the development of decision-support tools for the management and prevention of cyanobacterial bloom events.
