Its purpose is to conserve and restore biodiversity and mitigate climate change in agroforestry systems of protected areas in rural SUDOE. To this end, it works with extensive livestock farming from 2 perspectives: 1) Making it more sustainable, promoting regenerative management practices and methods that improve biodiversity, increase carbon sequestration, favor animal welfare, and conserve traditional agroforestry ecosystems. 2) Making it more competitive and profitable, valuing its products and supporting its businesses, so that it can endure and continue contributing to the dynamic conservation of protected areas. Sustainable extensive livestock farming is worked as a vector for endogenous socioeconomic development in protected rural areas. It will define a joint transnational strategy and an action plan for the dynamic conservation of protected areas linked to extensive livestock farming. Then, demonstrative pilot activities will be developed that experiment with joint solutions on: evaluation and characterization of regenerative management measures on extensive livestock farms for biodiversity conservation and climate change mitigation; differential promotion of extensive livestock products; short marketing and networking channels; and product valorization through gastronomy. Finally, the joint transnational strategy and action plan will be validated, to finally be transferred to the sector and competent entities, and adopted. It benefits the entire value chain of the sector and systematically addresses all the problems it faces, with a marked demonstrative character, and with highly applicable products and results. It is promoted by a consortium strong in competence and experience, solvent for its execution, representative of the entire value chain, and territorially balanced. With it, PASTONATUR capitalizes on previous knowledge and experiences, shares capacities, creates an important cooperation network, and makes an effective transfer to policies and the sector, which will guarantee a high impact of the results.
