Organic Matter Recovery for Resilient Viticulture in SUDOE
The project aims to define an organic matter recovery strategy, particularly from grapevines, to prevent the burning of vine stocks – in a context of widespread uprooting – and to maintain resilient viticulture in the SUDOE region in the face of climate change. A key element of this strategy is to ensure winegrowers have physical and economic access to organic matter recovery solutions, which is currently a significant hurdle to recycling vine stocks.

To achieve this, all project partners will collaborate to:

Optimize and promote mobile biochar production equipment that can be used as close as possible to organic matter sources and sinks (WG1).

Demonstrate the beneficial effects and conditions of use for organic soil amendments (WG2).

Analyze the economic and regulatory mechanisms to implement this strategy in the SUDOE region, evaluating the environmental impact, especially in terms of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and carbon storage.

A common methodology will be adopted for strategy development, but the specific characteristics of each region will be considered. This includes aspects like organic matter sources and sinks, regulations, environment, administrative and territorial organization, and economic fabric, all to define context-adapted strategies. Therefore, the project intends to develop three strategies, which are essentially three variations of a common strategy.
