The experimental areas are located in central France, north-western Spain and southern Portugal and belong to very different soil and climate zones, with diverse socio-economic characteristics. However, they face common challenges such as loss of soil organic matter and increased water stress due to climate change. All of this leads to a loss of microbial life and, consequently, soil fertility. Other soil problems in these areas include the impact of pesticides and synthetic fertilisers.
In this case, cross-border collaboration will take place between wineries and research centres in France, Spain and Portugal, combining their specialities to make better use of lignocellulosic waste (LCW) generated in the wine sector.
