Within the e‑Rigation project, each partner plays a specific role and contributes key knowledge to advance towards a more efficient water management in agriculture. On this occasion, we focus on NEIKER, a technology center based in Euskadi (Basque Country) and the main beneficiary of the project.
A key role in project development
Within the project, NEIKER leads the overall execution and coordination, ensuring the proper progress of activities at both technical and administrative levels. Its work focuses on ensuring consistency among partners, guaranteeing the quality of results, and promoting effective collaboration throughout the project.
In addition, it participates in the development of solutions such as virtual weather stations, leads the improvement of water management applications, and coordinates pilot trials under real conditions. It also contributes to the evaluation of solutions, the development of public policy recommendations, and the transfer of results to the agricultural sector.
Experience driving innovation
NEIKER’s contribution is based on more than 20 years of experience in estimating crop water requirements and irrigation scheduling. Its work integrates mathematical models, artificial intelligence, and monitoring technologies, combining satellite data, weather information, and field sensors.
This track record, strengthened by participation in European projects such as ClimAlert, MONTCLIMA, and PhytoSUDOE, supports progress in solutions to improve irrigation efficiency and agronomic decision-making.
Towards more efficient and resilient agriculture
The goal of NEIKER in e‑Rigation is to contribute to the development of tools that enable a more efficient, precise, and sustainable water management in agriculture.
Through its participation, the organization promotes precision agriculture that is more resilient and adapted to climate change, where the smart use of water is key to improving the sustainability and competitiveness of the sector in the SUDOE territory.
